Hello everyone! Behold my first blog post! What I’ll be doing with this blog is sharing things that are going on in my life. I have a way of staying pretty busy so I hope this is interesting to you as we go.
My workday goes from 6:30am to 3pm during the week so that affords me the opportunity to do all the extra stuff I enjoy doing. At the moment my time is taken up with the upcoming performance of Jekyll and Hyde at our community theatre. I’ve been a regular member of this theatre for over 20 years. I’m helping out with the stage crew for this particular show and it’s going pretty well. The actors here really strong in their talent and I’m impressed with what they’ve been able to put together.
We open at the end of the week and we have been putting the finishing touches on everything. There are special lights that we have rented for use of the show. It’s a system that you can program the lights to move on their own and they make for some really cool effects. The set looks completely different under the different light schemes. The challenge has been for our operators to get comfortable with working the board. We have also been adding a few touches to the set. Dr. Jekyll’s lab table has all kinds of lab stuff on it now with tubes running into the beakers that pump air into them. This causes a really cool bubbling effect that brings some movement and sound to the setting.
Most of the work the crew is doing for the show is helping move furniture pieces in and out of the different scenes. The set itself is a unit that doesn’t move, which makes things a little easier.
We are set to open this Friday and run through the first weekend of October and close on the 9th. I’ll keep you posted on how the performances go. Ticket sales have been really good so far. We expect to sell out opening night any day.
Sounds like an interesting job and more fun than sitting in an office for 8 hours. (I am commenting from said office.) Good luck with the show and welcome to blogging!

I wish this was my job. The theatre here is all volunteer. We go through all this madness in addition to our day jobs just because we love doing this stuff. (I am also currently writing from an office so I empathize with you.) Thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated.

I work in the lovely world of purchasing. Most of my day is spent on a computer working on purchase orders and tracking deliveries. It’s nice to have a creative outlet to balance the analytical aspect to most of my day.

How very interesting!! Set design was always a dream job for me, to build something from nothing and have it bring a play or performance together in the background of it all. (*day dreams* hahaa) Great post. Hope the show does amazingly!!
